Sports Massage

Our sports massage techniques focus on working at a deeper level than Swedish massage techniques. The effects are thus targeted deeper into muscles, ligaments, tendons and tissues.

Sports massage techniques often involve using forearms, elbows, knuckles and thumbs to create the greater pressures required to perform the massage. This level of treatment is often required by clients whose muscles are used often and extensively.

We have sporting clients whose muscles experience large amounts of stress during different levels of sporting activity and we have non-sporting clients whose muscles are subjected to the daily rigours of their job. Indeed, the majority of our returning clients are just normal active people with repetitive strain injuries or stress-related problems that are having a negative and painful impact on their body and general wellbeing.

Sports massage helps to release muscular trauma and tension, stretching the muscles, ligaments and fascia so muscles can lengthen and the body can realign itself. This approach is ideal for both the sports person with overworked muscles seeking to reduce recovery time and the non-sports person aiming to get to the root of sources of pain or to regain flexibility and degree of movement.

When muscles have been put under a lot of strain, due to the demands of daily work or sporting activities, their fibres naturally tear and damage. This is a natural fact of life and often manifests itself in that pain we feel for days after. Scar tissue then forms during the recovery period. Our sports massage techniques are ideal for manipulating this scar tissue so that the muscles experience a better recovery without leaving behind scar gremlins that would otherwise go on to become embedded deeper into the muscle.

Like other forms of massage, sports massage stimulates blood circulation, aiding the disposal of metabolic and other waste after activity. Used in conjunction with other techniques, sports massage can also assist in correcting posture and muscle balance.

Finally, although sports massage is not always comfortable, our clients feel more invigorated or relaxed afterwards.

My big issue was recovering from my lengthy training sessions while at the same time doing a heavy day job.
Having benefited from my first proper sports massage, I am now looking forward to some more. I really felt the benefit from the first and was able to do a lengthy run with my hamstrings and shins feeling less tired.
